Popcorn Recipes

Popcorn is a fantastic, versatile and even almost healthy accompaniment for a martini.

The first time I had popcorn as a martini snack was in the Bar Américain at the beautiful and surprisingly non-touristy Art Deco venue Brasserie Zedel, located in the heart of theatre district in Central London.

They served complimentary paprika-flavoured popcorn with their martinis and kept it topped up throughout the tipple. If you partake of this delight, be sure not to fill up too much before you head over to their fantastic restaurant.

If you can’t make it to Piccadilly, here are some recipes you can try at home. I have used my Joseph Joseph popcorn bowl, so use whatever technique of tool works for you – it’s the seasoning afterwards that makes the difference.

Curry Popcorn

This is a really warming, savoury comfort food. Cook your popcorn using the device or technique of your choice, then when it’s ready sprinkle or shake over a teaspoon of salt, a pinch of chilli powder, a tablespoon of curry powder (mild, medium or hot all work depending on your preference), 2 teaspoons of garlic powder and half a teaspoon of sugar. It’s pretty addictive – especially if you serve it warm.

Salted Rosemary

This is more subtle than the curry popcorn. Simply use the Joseph Joseph bowl as above then stir in a teaspoon of salt and a tablespoon of ground, dried rosemary.

Garlic and Smoked Paprika

This one is very easy. Cook your popcorn and shake in 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder and 2 teaspoons of smoked paprika.

Garlic and Thyme

This is almost the same as the Rosemary version above but use ground, dried thyme and stir in a teaspoon of garlic powder as well.

If I had to choose a favourite I’d pick the curry popcorn recipe. It’s the one I come back to the most and I find it deeply comforting.

Otherwise, the possibilities are endless. I might come back with some additional recipes in the near future.

They’re all best enjoyed warm, adjacent to an ice-cold martini! If you want to know how to get it really cold, read on here!
